Yeah Heels!

Hopefully you caught the Carolina/Maryland lax game on ESPNU yesterday afternoon. My daughter's birthday party ended right at 2:00 and as we were ushering the last little girl out of the house (last out of 17!) I flipped on the tube to catch a great performance by the Tarheels.

The best thing about that victory yesterday (besides being able to quiet down little B) was that the Heels played well as a team. As a coach you always look to see how the guys react when arguably their best offensive player (Billy Bitter) was not in the line up. To top it off, Sean Dulaney (another All American) got injured and missed more than 1/2 of the game. Without their two offensive stars the Tarheels held their composure and once again multiple guys stepped up and got on the scoreboard..........which seems to be the theme of their season so far.

I can't forget to mention the defensive effort Carolina put forth yesterday. The close defense shut down the powerful Maryland attack for the most part and the entire defense unit played extremely well and was on the same page for the entire game. Chris Madalon once again played solid yesterday, he wasn't great but what he's been all season is consistent. When you're defense is limiting the quality shots you're seeing as a goalie it helps as well.

Congrats boys on a great 9-0 start, next week we are at the Hop to face the Blue Jays who are coming off their 4th straight lost at the hands of the #1 Wahoos. Despite the record you can never look past Johns Hopkins, they're always ready to play and they'll need to get back on track to have a chance of making the post season so I'm sure they'll be ready. More on that in my next blog!
